Two sessions at the Healthy Congregations Retreat: first, I'll be giving a keynote at 10:30 am: Connected, but not Connected: Social Isolation and Health Outcomes.  I'll discuss the health implications of loneliness and how electronic communication does not necessarily fix them. Then I'll talk further about potential interventions, both clinical and social, for our patients or congregants who may be socially isolated.

Then, in the afternoon, I'll be giving a workshop on diabetes care for the layperson: More than Pills and Scalpels: Care of the Diabetic Person Outside Clinic Walls. Over 80 percent of health outcomes are determined by social determinants of health, like wealth, access to quality food, and our zip code. I'll workshop interventions for diabetic patients that can happen in the 99% of their lives that aren't spent in doctors' offices.

I'm really looking forward to this one.
